#1: Active Kids are Healthier
When you let your kids down that last piece of fries, or gobble up the last tub of ice cream, you are putting them at risk of becoming one of the thousands of who are class 2 obese. In recent statistics alone, the percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to nearly 21% over the same period source Center for Disease Control.
On top of the usual high risk of Cardio Vascular diseases, they are also prone to diabetes. Keeping them active and healthy will combat that possibility
#2: They become mentally and physically tougher
Let’s face it, kids exposed to martial arts will take some hits both physically and emotionally. Kids who learn how to take these blows will grow up to be balanced individuals. Disappointments will come later in life. They will discover that life is not that fair, or easy. Bjj will teach them the resilience that they will need later in life.
If you love them, grant them the structure of being a martial artist.
#3: Strengthen the connection between body and mind
BJJ is about coordination and strategy. A game best described as a chess match. It’s all about staying 3 steps ahead of your opponent. They will learn how to be intuitive and become more sensitive to the changes that their bodies experience. They will understand more of themselves since the art will teach them about their bodies and its capabilities
#4: Focus, everyone?!
There are so many distractions around. Especially in the modern age where kids are exposed to so many choices of video games, TV shows, toys, activities etc. This breeds lack of focus and the lack of desire to pursue a goal. In being still and focused, your child will become more successful.
#5: I can be your hero, baby
As Professor Flavio Almeida pointed out, kids need heroes. Parents are good role models, but having kids plug in to a stranger they have little familiarity with, can become their role models. Gracie Barra is packed with personalities that your child can easily look up to.
